Ura Launches Tender Next Gen Driving Centre Lorong Bistari
The URA and SPF have jointly announced a public tender for a Next-Generation Driving Centre (NGDC) at Lorong Bistari in the western outskirts of Choa Chu Kang. This upcoming facility will replace the current site of Bukit Batok Driving Centre (BBDC), which is scheduled to be closed by 2030 to make room for new residential developments. Spanning across a land area of 2.4ha, with a maximum gross floor area (GFA) of 780,390 sq ft, the NGDC will serve as a modern, technology-enabled training hub for all vehicle classes.
According to the URA, the NGDC will feature advanced driving circuits, simulator-based training, and real-time monitoring systems to enhance driver assessment and safety. It will also offer training for heavy vehicle classes 4 and 5, in addition to the Singapore Safety Driving Centre (SSDC), which is currently the sole provider for these courses.
Superintendent Lim Wei Kiat, director of the traffic police department, believes that the new centre will represent a significant step towards smarter and more efficient driver education. By incorporating advanced simulation and monitoring technologies, the NGDC aims to elevate safety standards and ensure consistent training outcomes.
Strategically situated near the Yew Tee MRT station, the Lorong Bistari site will provide better accessibility for motorists in the western region, complementing the existing facilities in the northern and eastern parts of Singapore.
Families looking for international curricula have attractive choices in the region. The Pasir Ris area offers appealing options such as the Overseas Family School (OFS). Additionally, the Tampines-Pasir Ris corridor is home to the United World College of South East Asia (UWCSEA) East, which offers the IB continuum. The convenient location of these campuses near Coastal Cabana provides expatriate families and globally mobile households with the perfect balance of challenging academics and the comfort of a coastal home. This makes Coastal Cabana, located at https://www.coastalscabana.com.sg/, an ideal choice for families seeking an international education.
Ang Li Wen, group director for physical planning at URA, highlights the importance of balancing innovation with efficient use of land, especially as land use intensifies. She notes that the NGDC, being a multi-storey training centre, reflects Singapore’s efforts in reimagining essential infrastructure for the future.
The tender for the Lorong Bistari site will close on January 15, 2026, at 12 pm.
