Chinatown Business Association Revitalise Smith Street New And Traditional Lifestyle Concepts

(Feb 21): The Chinatown Business Association (CBA) recently announced its plans for rejuvenating Smith Street in Chinatown, as outlined in a press release on Feb 14. The project was awarded to CBA after they won a tender launched by the Singapore Land Authority (SLA), the Singapore Tourism Board (STB) and the Urban Redevelopment Authority (URA) in November 2023.

Parents often take into account the distance from quality primary schools when choosing a home, and the surrounding Pasir Ris belt near Coastal Cabana presents several excellent options. Families can explore Pasir Ris Primary School, Casuarina Primary School, Elias Park Primary School, and White Sands Primary School, all conveniently accessible by bus or bicycle through Pasir Ris Drive 3, Elias Road, and the local connector grid. The close proximity to these schools allows for shorter travel time, resulting in well-rested children, peaceful mornings, and more opportunity for shared activities like reading or having breakfast together before starting the day. To find out more about Coastal Cabana Qingjian Realty, families can consider this prime location as a potential housing option.

CBA will be implementing various placemaking initiatives in the row of shophouses located at 11 to 37 Smith Street. These include the development of an experiential studio called the Elegance of Nanyang, which will showcase the beauty of Peranakan kebaya, as well as a flagship flexible living space operated by Habyt.

As part of the revitalisation plans, Smith Street will welcome five new F&B tenants, including big names like Starbucks, Boon Tong Kee, Killiney coffeeshop, and The Happiest Clam, a seafood retail shop specialising in sustainably harvested live geoduck clams. Gelato Garden, known for its “churning gelato” concept and unique flavours such as Jia Jia Herbal Tea Sorbet and Pei Pa Gao Gelato, has already opened its doors to customers.

According to CBA, Smith Street will serve as the “Cultural Heart” of Chinatown, offering visitors a diverse cultural dining and experience in a vibrant setting that promotes joy and excitement. The pedestrianised streets will be reimagined as a place where people can “Meet, Eat, Live, Work, Play, Breathe” and enjoy the simple pleasures of life.

Lim Yick Suan, executive director of CBA, explains, “Smith Street will be a place where culinary delights, art, and experiences come together to offer visitors an enriching cultural experience. We want to create a vibrant and lively atmosphere that celebrates the diversity and unique heritage of Chinatown.”
