Villa Orsucci, a historic 18th-century estate located in Lucca, Tuscany, is currently up for sale. This magnificent property, once owned by Caroline Bonaparte, the sister of French Emperor Napoleon I, boasts over 3,200 sq m of land, including a main villa, an annexe, a private church, and more than 6 hectares of beautifully landscaped gardens with swimming pools, gravel paths, and additional outbuildings.
Listed by Italian agency Lionard Luxury Real Estate, the asking price for this grand estate has not been disclosed. Its origins can be traced back to the 16th century, but it was in the 18th century when the villa was transformed into a luxurious residence. Coriolano Orsucci, a prominent Italian silk merchant, commissioned renowned architect Filippo Juvara, a key figure of the Baroque movement in Italy, to renovate and expand the villa.
In 1836, Caroline Bonaparte acquired the property and made it her home. She was the younger sister of Napoleon I and had previously held the title of Queen of Naples until her husband, King Joachim Murat’s death in 1815. Bonaparte owned and resided at the villa until her passing in 1839.
The main villa, spread over three levels and boasting an attic and a basement, covers approximately 2,500 sq m. It comprises a central living room, numerous bedrooms, kitchens, and dining areas. The standout feature of the property is the double-height hall adorned with two large paintings dating back to 1710, believed to have been brought to the villa by Bonaparte. The house is also adorned with period furniture, tapestries, and stucco decorations, adding to its historic charm.
The annexe, which has been meticulously restored, offers five bedrooms with private bathrooms. In total, Villa Orsucci boasts ten bedrooms, providing ample accommodation for its future owners.
Perched amidst the rolling hills of Lucca, the villa is ideally located just a short distance from the city center and approximately an hour’s drive from Florence. Lionard also mentions that potential buyers may consider purchasing the estate’s stables and farmer’s house, situated on an additional 15,000 sq m of land adjacent to the main villa’s grounds. These properties would be purchased separately from Villa Orsucci.
