The China House by Chef Fei at Mandarin Oriental Bangkok has recently undergone a stunning transformation, courtesy of Hong Kong’s renowned Steve Leung Design Group (SLD). Featuring Chaoshan and Cantonese cuisine, the 11,840 sq ft restaurant, located in a heritage house next to the hotel entrance, has reopened after a month-long renovation.

According to Mai Chongchaiyo, chief creative officer of Steve Leung Hospitality (SLH), the design team drew inspiration from the rich heritage of Chaozhu and Shantao, infusing a contemporary touch to the nostalgic venue. The result is a modern interpretation that captures the essence of the restaurant’s traditional roots.

Spread over two floors, The China House boasts an atrium bar, lounge area, and a tea bar on the ground floor, while the main dining hall, private dining rooms, and semi-private salons are located on the second floor.

The restaurant’s decor draws inspiration from Thailand’s vibrant culture and arts, with SLH partnering with local brands and artisans for the project. Notable features include stunning pendant lights made from metal by Thai artist Saruta Kiatparkpoom (also known as PiN) and exquisite wallpapers from the renowned silk and textile producer Jim Thompson. Timber was provided by Siam Woodland to complete the look.

The completion of The China House’s renovation coincides with the launch of SLD’s new Bangkok office, in line with their “Rejuvenation, Diversification, and Globalization” strategy. This move allows the company to expand into new markets, while also showcasing their recent projects, such as the ones at The Skywaters mixed-use development on Shenton Way and the Paiza Royal Collection suites at Marina Bay Sands in Singapore.

With its stunning design and delectable cuisine, The China House is set to impress and delight diners, offering a perfect blend of tradition and modernity.
