Pontiac Land’s Fari Islands Triples Solar Capacity Targets 50 Solar Power 2025
with three brands in the mix
Fari Islands, a picturesque archipelago consisting of four islands located in the Maldives, is planning to significantly increase its use of solar power by 2025 in order to work towards its goal of achieving net-zero emissions.
The luxury destination, developed by Singapore’s Pontiac Land Group, is home to four world-class hospitality brands including The Ritz-Carlton Maldives, Fari Islands, and Capella Hotel Group’s Patina Maldives and Fari Campus.
In an effort to become more environmentally sustainable, Fari Islands is expected to expand its solar capacity from the current 2.1 MWp to 6.4 MWp, which will provide up to 50% of the islands’ energy demand. This is a major step forward in the group’s commitment to sustainability, according to CEO David Tsang. “By embracing renewable energy, we are taking tangible steps to reduce our carbon footprint, advance our environmental goals, and support sustainability progress in the hospitality and tourism sectors.”
The expansion of renewable energy sources on the islands will be carried out in partnership with Swimsol, the leading solar energy provider in the Maldives. The projects include the installation of Fari Islands’ first floating solar system, which is expected to provide 24% of the islands’ energy needs. Set to be completed by the fourth quarter of 2025, the system will consist of 40 platforms and 2,160 PV panels. Additionally, Fari Campus will also see an increase in its land-based PV installations, bringing the total solar capacity on the island to 1,200 kWp across 19 residential and community buildings.

Fari Islands has been dedicated to sustainable energy efforts for some time now. In September of last year, The Ritz-Carlton Maldives added additional solar roof coverage to its Ocean Villas and amenities, bringing the resort’s total solar capacity up to 983 kWp. Patina Maldives, on the other hand, operates entirely on solar power during daylight hours thanks to its 2,994 kWp of solar panels on the beach villas, F&B outlets, and amenities. The resort has received back-to-back EarthCheck Silver Certifications and the Forbes verified Responsible Hospitality badge in 2024 and 2025.
General Manager of Patina Maldives, Anthony Gill, believes that the completion of these solar installations is another powerful step towards a healthier, more sustainable world. “Through our continued commitment to sustainability, we take another powerful step toward a healthier, more sustainable world with the completion of our solar installations.”
