The Reef at King’s Dock: A Haven for Waterfront Living
The Reef at King’s Dock is an upmarket waterfront condominium situated along Harbourfront Avenue. The development is named after its location at King’s Dock, a historic site that played a significant role in Singapore’s maritime history.
King’s Dock was built in 1913 and was the second-largest dock in the world at the time. It was designed to accommodate large ships and was equipped with state-of-the-art steam engine pumps to drain the water for repairs and maintenance. Over the years, the dock became an integral part of Singapore’s bustling port, and a fourth dock, the Queen’s Dock, was eventually commissioned in the 1950s.
In recent years, the area has undergone significant redevelopment, transforming from a busy harbor to an upscale waterfront enclave known as HarbourFront. This waterfront district is home to luxurious condominiums, marinas, and retail offerings. The former dock sites have been repurposed into seaside condos like The Reef at King’s Dock, Caribbean at Keppel Bay, Reflections at Keppel Bay, and Corals at Keppel Bay.
The Reef at King’s Dock was launched in January 2021 and quickly became popular among buyers, with 280 out of 300 units being snapped up on the first day. This 429-unit development is a joint venture between Mapletree Investments and Keppel and was completed in July 2020.

Designed by European firm KCAP Architects & Planners in collaboration with Singapore’s DCA Architects, the development pays homage to its historic location while also embracing a modern take on waterfront living. The 10 blocks of varying heights and widths are arranged in a stepped profile, with the tallest block situated at the northern end, closer to Mount Faber. The blocks feature different shapes, colors, and facades, ensuring each block has its own unique character.
The development also prioritizes sustainability, with units designed for optimal natural ventilation and energy-efficient systems. The residential units range from one- to three-bedrooms, with sizes ranging from 431 sq ft to 1,572 sq ft. All 429 units were sold by the end of 2020, with the last unit selling for $2.98 million on Sept 9, 2020.
The most unique feature of The Reef at King’s Dock is its floating deck, located alongside the old dock wall. This 180m-long pontoon houses the condo’s swimming pools, including a 50m lap pool. The floating deck, a first for residential properties in Singapore, is an engineering marvel. It was built with a custom concrete mix and features internal buoyancy chambers and water ballast bags to keep the deck level.
The developers also preserved King’s Dock’s marine ecosystem by designing the deck with specialized patterns to encourage the settlement of marine flora and fauna. Corals harvested from King’s Dock were also transplanted to the deck, which residents can enjoy from the marine viewing hammock installed at one end.
The Reef at King’s Dock also offers a range of facilities, including function rooms, a gym, a tennis court, a playground, and several gardens and pavilions. The landscaping by Grant Associates, the appointed landscape architect for the project, focuses on native and coastal species, reflecting the site’s maritime heritage.
The development also boasts an eco-conscious design, with energy-efficient systems, water-efficient fittings, and rainwater harvesting systems. The Reef at King’s Dock received the Green Mark GoldPLUS rating from the Building and Construction Authority for its sustainability performance.
The judges at the EdgeProp Singapore Excellence Awards recognized The Reef at King’s Dock’s excellence with three titles: Landscape Excellence, Innovation Excellence, and Top Development. The development was praised for its thoughtful landscaping that showcases the legacy of King’s Dock and the area.
