The Watergardens at Canberra has once again proven its excellence in design and development by winning two awards at the EdgeProp Singapore Excellence Awards (EPEA) 2025. The awards were given under the completed projects category, adding to the three awards the development had already received in the EPEA 2022 when it was still under construction. Completed in late 2021, The Watergardens at Canberra is developed by United Venture Development, a joint venture between UOL Group, Singapore Land Group and Kheng Leong Company. The 448-unit development sits on a 296,719 sq ft site along Canberra Drive, secured through a Government Land Sale tender in March 2020 for $270.2 million.
At the EPEA 2025, The Watergardens at Canberra won the Design Excellence award, recognizing its modern and clean design that integrates seamlessly with the surrounding landscape. The Top Development award was also given to the development, acknowledging its overall success in meeting the needs and demands of the market. These wins are in addition to the three awards the development had previously received in the EPEA 2022 for Innovation Excellence, Landscape Excellence, and Sustainability Excellence.
Yeong Sien Seu, the Chief Legal and Sustainability Officer of UOL Group, and Lee Zhi Xiang, the Senior Project Manager of Singapore Land Group, received the Top Development award from Pang Kai Xin, the Vice President of Corporate of EdgeProp Singapore. The Design Excellence award was received by Chan Jer Wei, the Deputy General Manager of UOL Group, from Lim Koon Park, the Founder and Principal Architect of Park + Associates, who was also one of the EPEA judges this year.
The Watergardens at Canberra features sixteen five-storey blocks with two- to four-bedroom units ranging from 646 sq ft to 1,528 sq ft. The development was fully sold within two years of its launch in 2021, with an average price of $1,446 psf. Located in District 27, between Sembawang and Yishun, The Watergardens is in the relatively new Canberra estate. It is close to amenities like Canberra Plaza, Northpoint City, Sun Plaza, Sembawang Hot Spring Park, and Sembawang Park, as well as the nearby Canberra MRT Station. The development also has a publicly accessible childcare facility, catering to young families in the neighborhood.
The Watergardens at Canberra boasts a resort-style living, with its irregular shape and sloping terrain beautifully integrated into the landscape. The development is designed by P&T consultants, who have made use of the topography by placing blocks at different levels, surrounded by tiered pools and layered gardens. This creates a serene ambiance that connects water, greenery, and architecture seamlessly.
The blocks have a modern and clean design, with dark tones on the lower floors and lighter tones on the upper floors, creating a floating effect. The facade also includes features like sun-shading structures and grey-tinted laminated glass to protect against heat. The blocks are also positioned to maximize natural ventilation, with each unit having a generous balcony to enhance air circulation. The recreational facilities and pools are set amidst lush landscaping, further accentuating the resort-like atmosphere.
The Watergardens at Canberra has three distinct landscaped zones: the Forest Pool zone, the 50m lap pool zone, and the recreation lawn area. The Forest Pool zone features the largest cluster of recreational pools, including a water jet terrace, water slides, an aqua gym, a function space, and entertainment rooms. The 50m lap pool area has a jacuzzi alcove, cabana deck, and is flanked by a gym on one end and function rooms on the other. The recreation lawn area offers an open green space with flower gardens, a grill pavilion, and water hammocks.
Other amenities within the development include an outdoor chess garden, an urban farm area, a reflexology trail, a jogging trail, multiple dining pavilions, and a yoga lawn. These spaces are connected by scenic pathways with diverse plantings to enhance the resort setting.
The Watergardens at Canberra offers a wide range of unit configurations and sizes to accommodate different lifestyles. Apart from the typical two-bedroom units, there are also two-bedroom premium units and two-bedroom premium plus study units. Three-bedroom units come in three different layouts, and four-bedroom units also feature a utility room. The interiors of the units are designed by Index Design, with attention to detail and catering to different buyer profiles. The two-bedroom units have a cool color palette, while larger units have warm, inviting tones. The master bathrooms also have elegant features like curved mirrors.
